Main Source Fakin The Funk. Live On YO! MTV Raps

Man, I used to love Yo MTV Raps soooo much. I can't even explain how much which sucks cause I'm playing the role of someone who is supposed to tell you things about stuff. Anyway, this here is a super-cool live version of Fakin' The Funk by Main Source.

I like how guest MC Neek The Exotic is rocking that turqouise t-shirt. That's back when it was cool to wear colored T's. Now kids just be wearing baggy white ones. Super baggy ass ones. Like to the ground and stuff. I wonder how often hip hop youngsters get their long T's stuck in escalators when they're hanging out at the mall? Prolly ALL the time. Maybe that's why that one at my plaza is always broke. Too many tall T's.

Main Source was one of those cool ass groups that not too many people remember. They only dropped one album before breaking up the original line up of K-Cut, Sir Scratch and rapper, producer, main talent ,The Large Professor.  Their debut album Breaking Atoms is a four and a half star hip-hop semi-classic. It's a classic to me but I don't know how many other dude's would agree with me taking it as far as classic status.

I remember the first time I heard Main Source on MTV. It was uhm, Looking At The Front Door A little love song about how Large Pro was sick of having his girl dirt on him cause he aint made of money and all refined like Remington Steele of whoever. I thought that it was a pretty interesting song for the time. It wasn't too common for an MC to take it down the relationship road without saying some shit about how bitches aint shit or whatever (for the record, that song came YEARS later. I'm just using it as a witty example of a common for the time anti-girl song, trying to anyway)

I wanted to hear that song one more time but without the internet to just like, look it up or whatever all I could do was head to Rainbow Records and see if they had it in. It was a different time. I mean, I just saw the video who even knows if the tape would be out yet. I didn't know dick. Back in the day nobody knew anything about anything. We struggled along blindly to the record store with nothing but ten bucks for a tape and a heart filled with hope.

Luckily they had it, this time. Usually they didn't have any of the hip hop that I wanted. Me and my homeboy Jesse used to drive up to Berkely ALL THE TIME to get new beats. Seriously we had to drive two hours just to buy tapes we wanted. That sucked so bad but in a lot of ways was cool. The searching caused greater appreciation.

Nowadays I have gigs of music on my computer that I've never even heard but I could still tell you all the tracks off of Jeru The Damaja's first album in order cause I actually had to leave the house to score on not just leave the house but actually drive HOURS just to get the chance to buy it.

I can barely get through ten seconds of a song unless it sounds as awesome as Raising Hell or something lately because I know I can just go to Pirate Bay and grab some other shit that isn't set to drop for three months. I don't know man, just feeling reticent for the old days. Sorry that this isn't too imformative about Main Source. Maybe next time.
